Ain’t no Shame in it

By Jacob Garcia

In today’s world, being a Christian means different things to different people. The very obvious and simplistic origin of the term Christian,"Christ", is not recognized as much as He should be. It’s no wonder that many people in our day and age refer to Christians as merely a religious group or organization. Now, I can’t very well speak on behalf of the entire world, but I can certainly say that if you use the only source capable of confirming what a Christian is, you would find that the Holy Bible gives the true meaning and history pertaining to this overly abused title.

Recently, in a common conversation at work, I mentioned my being a Christian. The first question that arose was " What type of Christian are you?" My response was, "How many types of Jesus Christ are there?" Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."(John 14:6) So I am certain that it is essential for "Christians" to recognize that Christ is the only way to salvation. I also explained to some of my curious co-workers that I am not ashamed of the Gospel, and that God is watching to see whether we will remain sincere until the coming of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God. (Phil. 1:10,11)

As often as I am asked about my beliefs and religious background, I delight in expressing how Jesus Christ is much more than a religious icon. He is the living bread, which was given for the life of the world. (John 6:51) Whenever the opportunity arises, I will always confess the Lord Jesus, for the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. (Rom. 10:11)
