Off with the Veil

By C. Eldon McNabb

In this mountain shall the Lord of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined. And he will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the veil that is spread over all nations. He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the Lord hath spoken it." (Isa. 25:6-8)

This veil was first mentioned in the prophetic allegory in Exodus 34:29-35, when Moses descended from Mount Sinai, his face aglow with the Glory of God. The Apostle Paul also made mention of the veil in 2 Cor. 3:11-18, and showed how that, in the nation of Israel, the beginning of the fulfillment of its prophetic intent had been manifested. God had chosen the nation of Israel through which He would reveal His laws and His ways to the nations of the world, and to reveal that the veil was upon the hearts and eyes of mankind.

"For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious. Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not steadfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same veil untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which veil is done away in Christ. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the veil is upon their heart. Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away."

By the act of Moses putting a veil over his face, the Holy Ghost was signifying to us, in part, that Israel, though they were the People of God, would not realize that the coming of Christ would bring an end to the age of the Law of Moses. Even unto this day the veil remains upon the hearts and eyes of natural Israel. God lifted the veil from the Apostles of Christ Jesus and their followers, "and the rest were blinded." (Rom. 11:7)

But Isaiah showed that the veil was really cast over all peoples and nations, including the Gentile believers in Christ. Christians might protest saying, "We have Christ, therefore we do not have the veil over our eyes." But it is not in being born again or even being baptized with the Holy Spirit that the veil is done away. It happens through contact with the Mountain of The Lord's House. As Paul said in 2 Cor. 3:16, "When it shall turn to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away." Paul is referring to the mountain in Isaiah 25. The inability of Christians to understand prophecy is especially manifested in the fact that they relegate the Law of Moses, almost entirely, to history and Jewish custom - in spite of the fact that Jesus said, "All the prophets and the Law prophesied." (Matt. 11:13)

I do not know to what extent Moses comprehended the prophetic intent of the Law, but the prophets in general did not know what their prophecies were about. As Peter said, in his second epistle, they searched and sought diligently to understand "what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into."

In the fulness of time, Jesus came and raised up the spiritual Mount Sion (Heb. 12:18-24); cast the veil from the eyes of His Elect; and they were able to see the truth of it all, and go forth and cause others to see, as well.

Paul said, in 2 Cor. 3:14, "Which veil is done away in Christ," Christ being The Body of Christ: the Mount Zion which was to come - the Mountain of the Lord's House - the Church of the Living God.

It is now time for the Lord to "bring again Sion,"(Isa. 52:8) and complete the fulfillment of Isaiah 25:6-8. It is time to lift the veil from off the hearts and eyes of Gentile Christians. It is time to begin to feast upon the revelation and true understanding of the Word of God, which has been hidden in God all of this time. It is time to begin to drink of the spiritual wine, "which cheereth God and man." (Judges 9:13)

As it is written, "It shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; (God uses mountains and hills here and in Psalm 68:16; 72:3, and Songs 2:8) and all nations shall flow unto it. And many people shall go and say, 'Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house (Church) of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths.' " (Isa. 2:2-5 & Heb. 12:18-23)

The fulness of time has come unto the Gentiles. The spiritual Mount Zion is now ready to appear. It is yet just a small stone, as Daniel said, but it will soon begin to grow into a mountain, and together with God, we shall cast off the veil.

Then shall the words of the Apostle Paul, in Ephesians 3:8-11, be manifested. "Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord." The Lord God Almighty give you understanding.
